Biography
Julie Malone is a contemporary painter based in St. Louis whose luminous work bridges emotion, color, and abstraction. Born in 1971 in Kansas City, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art (Painting) from Central Missouri State University in 1995, and moved to St. Louis in 1996.
Her early work was figurative, but over time she evolved toward abstraction. Julie’s paintings are often described as “atmospheric abstractions” or “abstract atmospheric landscapes”, inviting viewers into scenes that suggest horizon lines, biomorphic forms, or simply vibrant play of color, light, and mood.
Her process often begins with washes of color—layers that let paint and gravity do some of the guiding. From there she builds depth via brushmarks, form, and reflective interplay of light and pigment. The result is art meant to pause the viewer, reduce anxiety, and open space for wonder.
Malone’s work is grounded in a fascination with color and how it affects emotion. She draws much of her inspiration from the natural world—sunsets, water, atmospheric conditions—and how these forces interplay with light.
Over the past two decades, Julie has created a substantial body of work, been exhibited locally (including at Houska Gallery), and reached clients and collectors both across the U.S. and internationally.
